when we wear our school uniform with pride”
Rationale:
A uniform is worn so that students can identify more closely with the school. It is an outward sign of belonging to the community of Bishop Edward Gaines Catholic School and the Parish of St Pius X Catholic Church.
Purposes:
To develop a sense of pride and belonging in the school.
To eliminate any discrimination that may occur to an individual due to socio-economic circumstances.
Guidelines:
The correct uniform should be worn at all times. If not, a written reason has to be supplied to the principal.
Girls Uniform:
Maroon and blue tartan culottes or skirt.
Royal blue short sleeve polo (during winter children can opt for royal blue skivvy or long sleeve polo)
Royal blue polar fleece with school monogram
Summer footwear – black sandals
Winter footwear – navy blue/black knee high socks/tights with plain black shoes
Royal blue jacket
Boys Uniform:
Grey shorts
Royal blue short sleeve polo (during winter children can opt for royal blue skivvy or long sleeve polo)
Royal blue polar fleece with school monogram
Summer footwear – black sandals
Winter footwear – navy blue/black knee high socks with plain black shoes

Our school is part of Kiwi Can Programme and they supply each new student with a warm winter jacket. Our office administrator will organise this item when your child starts school.
Sports uniform: (for both boys and girls)
School sports shirt (supplied by school)
Plain black shorts
School hats:
As per our sun safe policy, hats are to be worn outside during Terms 1 and 4. They can be royal blue bucket style or wide brim hats.
Hair:
To be tidy at all times and a natural colour. Boys and girls with longer hair should tie their hair back at all times for hygiene and also to keep their hair off their face for the purposes of learning. Hair ties, clips and headbands, should be in school colours.
Nails: Nail polish is not permitted.
Cosmetics: Make up is not permitted.
Piercings: Only earrings (see below) and permitted. All other piercings are not permitted.
Jewellery:
Consideration for safety must be taken into account in regard to this policy.
The only jewellery permitted to be worn as part of this policy are:
Any necklaces should be worn on a chain or other strap that is easily breakable under light pressure. This is for safety reasons.
Incorrect jewelry would be held at the school office for collection after school. After 2 warnings, a parent/caregiver can collect items from the school office.
The school accepts no responsibility for any loss or damage to any jewellery worn.
If for medical reasons, clothing outside of our school uniform range is advised by a medical professional, please come in and discuss this with the principal.

The wearing of uniform is an essential part of the identity and character of Bishop Edward Gaines Catholic School. It is the responsibility of parents and caregivers to adhere to these guidelines so that their children are in correct school uniform at all times. School uniform needs to be worn with pride, and is clean and tidy at all times.
